I’ve always tried to make, I guess, what you’d call pop songs with fangs. Like take something that’s very conventional and then put it right next to something that’s kind of very abrasive or something a little bit out there or avant garde. And find that space in the middle where a pop song can kind of still have life and still be unpredictable.
